Topic –Importance of physical, mental health and social interaction in college life

Speaker: Dr. Chinmayee Patil

 

The session commenced with the welcome of guest speaker, Dr. Chinmayee Patil, Consultant Physiotherapist, by Ms. Sanika Sapkale, student coordinator, honouring her with memento and shawl as token of respect. The discussion began with a comprehensive breakdown of physical, social, and mental health, precisely incorporating real-life instances to underscore their significance.

She highlighted the pivotal role of proper nutrition and exercise in maintaining health and well-being. Drawing from her own experiences, she highlighted the importance of cultivating a stress-free environment for overall wellness. Her personal journey served as a cautionary tale, shedding light on the consequences of neglecting health.

A participatory activity engaged students as they enthusiastically attempted planking, with a prize awarded to the victor. This interactive element flawlessly shifted  into a discourse on the manifold benefits of exercise, serving as a means to channelize energy and foster physical fitness. Stressing the significance of cardio exercises and consistent effort, she dispelled misconceptions about caloric intake and weight management.

The transformative power of exercise extended beyond physical well-being, encompassing enhanced focus, memory, and mental clarity. She advocated for maintaining quality sleep, emphasizing its growth through regular exercise. Consistency emerged as a recurrent theme, considered crucial for personal growth.

Transitioning to the domain of mental health, she expounded on emotional, psychological, and social well-being. She unveiled surviving strategies, including deep breathing, music, social support, humour, and journaling, while also explaining instances warranting professional intervention. A recommended viewing, “The Social Dilemma,” was introduced to spark self-analysis on digital influences.

The concept of priming of the brain was unveiled, leading to a contemplative exploration of social well-being—its essence, and the significance of fostering positive relationships. She encapsulated the session’s essence by conveying that every experience serves as a lesson to be understood.

In a captivating conclusion, the session underscored the paramount importance of holistic health. She insightful discourse left an indelible impact, arming participants with actionable insights—encouraging movement throughout the day, cultivating mindful habits, and nurturing positive relationships. The event concluded as a resounding success, serving as a beacon of holistic well-being and personal growth.
