SSGMCE, Shegaon conducted a session on “Learning of Students in the Classroom”
Shegaon: In a proactive initiative towards enhancing the educational experience, Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering (SSGMCE), Shegaon organized an enlightening session on “Learning of Students in the Classroom.” The session aimed to delve into the multifaceted aspects of student learning, providing educators with valuable insights to create dynamic and engaging classroom environments.
The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including alumni, current students, parents, and faculty members, totaling 47 enthusiastic participants.
The session began with a warm welcome by Prof. Adesh Solanke (Training and Placement Officer). He set the tone for an enriching discourse on the intricacies of student learning. Dr. Kalindi Bhat, a distinguished Leadership Consultant and Team Coach from Pune, took the helm as the facilitator. With a rich background as a former Principal in Pune and extensive expertise in leadership consultancy, she brought a wealth of experience to the session. Her role as the facilitator was pivotal in steering the discussions towards actionable insights and fostering a collaborative atmosphere.
The objectives of the session were to discuss what contributes to the quality of learning and to identify role-related “Actions” to enhance the learning of students at the campus. The participants were divided into groups to delve deeply into crucial topics that resonate with the institution’s commitment to continuous improvement.

Participants engaged in a reflective dialogue, expressing their pride in the unique attributes that define SSGMCE. The discussions highlighted the institution’s strengths, such as: Academic Excellence, Inclusive Environment, Value-based education, holistic development, state of the art facilities, discipline, character building, dedicated management and staff, spiritual environment.
- Students’ Attendance has nothing to do with performance:
This thought-provoking statement sparked extensive discussions, with participants sharing diverse perspectives such as Alternative Evaluation Metrics (Groups explored the possibility of shifting towards alternative performance metrics, acknowledging that attendance might not be the sole indicator of a student’s academic capabilities), Engagement and Participation (Participants emphasized the importance of measuring performance based on active engagement, participation in class discussions, and the quality of assignments).
- Social Media is the main reason for poor attendance:
Addressing the role of social media in influencing attendance, participants dissected the impact and proposed strategies for improvement:
- Today’s Teaching-Learning Methods Are Outdated:
Reflecting on the dynamism of education, groups discussed the need for innovative teaching-learning methodologies such as Interactive Sessions (Participants proposed incorporating more interactive and hands-on activities in classrooms to cater to diverse learning styles), and Technology Integration (Suggestions included embracing technology to create a more interactive and engaging learning environment, thereby aligning teaching methods with the expectations of the current generation).
At the end, all the stakeholders identified the action points for enhancing the learning of students in the classroom. This collaborative endeavor, facilitated by Dr. Kalindi Bhat, brought together a tapestry of insights from faculty members, alumni, students, and parents, creating an environment rich in collaboration and knowledge exchange. The group discussions not only provided a platform for diverse voices but also illuminated key insights into the strengths and challenges of the institute. The collaborative spirit displayed during these discussions serves as a testament to the commitment of all stakeholders toward the continuous enhancement of the teaching-learning experience at SSGMCE.
