Day 6 Student Orientation and Induction Program – Third Session ( 20 September 2024)

Topic:”Mindfulness”

Speaker:Dr.A.S.Tale, Head, Dept. of Applied Sciences and Humanities

On Day 6 of the Student Orientation and Induction Program , the third session focused on “Mindfulness” and was conducted by Dr. A. S. Tale, Head of the Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities. The session was introduced by Mr. Niraj Ubale, a second-year student, who welcomed Dr. Tale to the stage.

Dr. Tale began the session by engaging the students with an interactive discussion on the meaning of mindfulness. He followed this with a hands-on activity, where he invited 10 boys and 10 girls to participate. Each student was given a balloon and a pin, with instructions to protect their own balloon while music played in the background. However, most students started popping others’ balloons instead of safeguarding their own. This led to a reflective discussion, where Dr. Tale asked the participants to consider the meaning behind their actions, linking it back to the core concept of mindfulness—awareness and self-control.

Following this, Dr. Tale conducted a second activity. He divided the 20 students into four groups and provided each group with balloons and pencils. The challenge was to balance the balloon on a pencil and navigate it through the auditorium without letting it fall. Dr. Tale used this exercise to emphasize the importance of teamwork, leadership, and collaboration, traits that are crucial for engineers working on projects.

The final activity was a relaxation exercise. Dr. Tale instructed the students to sit comfortably, close their eyes, and practice deep breathing for one minute. He then guided them through a 10-minute meditation with soothing Gayatri Mantra music playing in the background, encouraging them to focus on positivity and recall the best moments of their lives. This exercise was designed to help students experience calm and happiness through mindfulness and meditation.

Dr. Tale concluded the session by gathering feedback from the students, ensuring that the interactive and reflective nature of the session had a lasting impact.
