As part of the ongoing Student Orientation and Induction Program for first-year engineering students, a comprehensive Anti-Ragging Awareness Session was held on 13th September 2024 at the New Auditorium. The session was led by Prof. Sachin Bhagat, the Chief Warden of Boys & Girls Hostels, and aimed to educate students about the importance of a ragging-free environment on campus.
In his address, Prof. Bhagat highlighted the legal and moral consequences of ragging, emphasizing the institution’s zero-tolerance policy towards any form of harassment or bullying. He elaborated on the various forms of ragging, including verbal abuse, physical harm, psychological pressure, and humiliation, and reiterated that such acts are not only punishable under the Indian Penal Code but also lead to severe academic penalties, including suspension and expulsion.
The session was informative, detailing the anti-ragging laws enforced by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Supreme Court of India. Prof. Bhagat also shared insights into the preventive measures taken by the institution, such as the establishment of the Anti-Ragging Committee and Anti-Ragging Squad, regular monitoring in hostels, and the availability of counseling services for victims of ragging.
First-year students were encouraged to report any incidents through anonymous reporting mechanisms, and were provided with the necessary helpline numbers and contact details for the Anti-Ragging Committee. Prof. Bhagat emphasized that creating a supportive and respectful community is a collective responsibility, urging students to foster positive relationships and stand against any form of ragging.
The session concluded with a strong message: “Say NO to Ragging,” as students pledged to maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all.
The session was well-received by the students, many of whom expressed appreciation for the institution’s proactive measures in ensuring their safety and well-being during their academic journey.
