Day 9 Student Orientation And Induction Program – First session (24 September 2024)
Topic: “National Education Policy [NEP] 2020”

The session began with the introduction of Dr. A.B. Marathe by final-year student Miss Apurva Patil. Dr. Marathe was felicitated by the Hon. Principal, Dr. S.B. Somani sir.
Dr. Marathe provided an overview of the National Education Policy (NEP), emphasizing that students can communicate in their mother tongue without any language barrier. He highlighted the support of the faculty members throughout this journey.
He informed the students that they are the first batch in the college to be guided by the NEP. Dr. Marathe sir explained what engineering truly means and encouraged the students to trust their profession, noting that the world needs solution providers, and engineers fulfill this critical role. As professional engineers, they must learn to solve various types of problems, understanding that there is often no single solution. Instead, they should aim to identify multiple sustainable solutions.
He discussed the concept of “Washington Accord,” which is globally accepted and recognized in India. The NEP has been integrated into the education policy, emphasizing the importance of a shared future. He stressed the urgency of acting to protect our planet, referencing the Brundtland Report, which introduced the concept of sustainable development.
Dr. Marathe mentioned that the NEP was initially known as the New Education Policy but has since been redefined. He shared an inspiring quote from Swami Vivekananda: “Manifestation of divine perfection,” which conveys that we all possess inherent perfection that we must strive to realize.
In the NEP, the focus shifts from teaching to learning, with the “Outliers” book offering golden rules for achieving excellence. He highlighted that those who work hard are always one step ahead. Fast learning is essential for enhancing our capabilities and leading a fulfilling life.
The primary goals of education are to develop student capabilities and prepare them for their futures. The NEP aims to foster economic independence, encouraging students to confront life’s challenges to secure a better future. He emphasized that if students do not utilize their abilities and skills, they will not succeed. To achieve success, they must continually enhance their potential.
Dr. Marathe introduced the concept of being “fit for my future role,” which encompasses developing capabilities through three essential attributes:
Knowledge: Understanding the importance of not only acquiring knowledge but also applying it effectively.
Skill: Mastering practical abilities.
Attitude and Behavior: Cultivating the right mindset for success.
He underscored the significance of values and ethics in education.
Miss Apurva Patil wrapped up the session with a heartfelt vote of thanks.
