Day 3: Student Orientation and Induction Program – Session I (14th September 2024)
Topic: “Institutional Values and Ethics”
Speaker: Dr. Kalindi Bhat, Mentor, Trainer, and Motivational Speaker
The third day of the Student Orientation and Induction Program continued with an insightful session on Institutional Values and Ethics by Dr. Kalindi Bhat, a renowned mentor, trainer, and motivational speaker. The session commenced with Principal S. B. Somani felicitating Dr. Bhat, followed by an introduction by Third-year student, Ms. Sharwari Deshmukh.
Dr. Bhat began by engaging the audience in reciting the prayer “Itni Shakti” and asked students to reflect on the most meaningful lines from the prayer. The iconic phrase remembered by many was, “hum na soche hume kya mila hai, hum yeh soche ki kya hai Arpan,” which resonated as a message of selflessness. Dr. Bhat emphasized the importance of compassion as a core value and reminded the students that values can be learned from anyone, regardless of their status.
The session highlighted the five institutional values of SSGMCE, Shegaon, which are:
- Personal Excellence
- Accountability
- Trustworthiness
- Holistic Development
- Creativity and Innovation
These values are collectively abbreviated as PATH C. To make the session more engaging, an interactive activity was conducted where different branches were assigned one value each. The students were tasked with preparing a presentation within 15 minutes, showcasing the value through a skit, story, or other creative methods. Faculty members, including Heads of Departments, assisted in guiding the students.
The presentations were as follows:
- Mechanical Engineering students presented a skit on Personal Excellence.
- Electrical Engineering students showcased Accountability through their performance.
- CSE students illustrated Trustworthiness through their skit.
- IT department students performed a short drama on Holistic Development.
- EXTC students narrated a story about Creativity and Innovation.
- MBA students also presented a skit on Creativity and Innovation.
Dr. H. M. Jha acted as the judge for the activity. At the end of the performances, it was announced that the Electrical Engineering students secured first place for their outstanding performance and time management, with each team being allotted five minutes.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Bhat encouraged students to embrace these values throughout their lives. A second activity followed, where pairs of students were given a “match-the-following” exercise, testing their understanding of the five values and their meanings. The session concluded with a reminder that living by these values is essential to personal and professional success.
