Day 7 Student Orientation and Induction Program – First Session ( 21 September 2024)

Topic: “Engineering Teacher’s Role”

Resource Person: Dr. Sanjay Sange

The first session of Day 7 commenced with second-year student Ms. Sonam Waykos anchoring the event. She invited Mr. Niraj Ubale to formally welcome the resource person, Dr. Sanjay Sange, Assistant Professor at Kuttchi Engineering College, Mumbai, with a memento. Following the welcome, Ms. Sonam introduced Dr. Sange, setting the stage for his insightful session on the role of teachers in engineering education. Dr. Sange began by congratulating the students for being admitted to SSGMCE, a place of spiritual significance associated with Gajanan Maharaj. He opened the session with a video showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage and emphasized the importance of preserving this legacy. He then introduced the concept of Akhand Bharat and explained the meanings behind Bharat and Arya-Vart, highlighting India’s history as a land of respectful, developed people. The session progressed to a discussion on the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) and its relevance to modern engineering. Dr. Sange emphasized how Sanskrit, regarded as one of the first languages, is particularly efficient for programming robots. He also provided insights into ancient Indian educational institutions like Nalanda and Takshashila, noting the tragic destruction of Nalanda, which burned for nearly a month.

Dr. Sange explored how ancient Indian knowledge, such as the Surya Siddhanta and Wootz Steel, contributed to modern science and technology. He pointed out that key concepts like the Pythagorean theorem and Newton’s laws were already embedded in ancient Indian scriptures, even before they were discovered in the West. He further elaborated on India’s architectural and scientific achievements, including the Ajanta caves, musical pillars temples, and other marvels. He also discussed the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and harmony, which are not only essential in professional life but also deeply rooted in India’s cultural history. Dr. Sange highlighted UNESCO World Heritage sites like the Hindu temple in Cambodia, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and the Thanjavur temple in Tamil Nadu, showcasing India’s global influence. In his closing remarks, Dr. Sange spoke about the critical role educators play in passing down this ancient knowledge and ensuring that future engineers are well-versed in both modern science and traditional wisdom. The session concluded with an engaging quiz for the students.
